Porcelain veneers from your dentist can make your dream smile a reality
Dr. Michelle and her team at Kentwood Family Dental Care believe that everyone deserves a smile they can be proud of. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your teeth, it can take the fun out of smiling and affect your confidence. That is why we offer a variety of cosmetic dental services at our practice, including porcelain veneers.
What are porcelain veneers?
Veneers are very thin coverings attached to the fronts of teeth. They effectively disguise blemishes and imperfections without significant alteration to the underlying teeth. In most cases, a thin layer of enamel is removed to accommodate the veneer. However, some ultra-thin designs, known as prep-less veneers, require no tooth alteration at all.
Veneers can be made of porcelain or laminate (resin). We generally recommend porcelain veneers because they are durable, stain-resistant, natural-looking, and long-lasting. With good oral health, porcelain veneers commonly last up to ten years, often longer.
What porcelain veneers can do for your smile
Veneers are often called a single-procedure smile makeover because they can change virtually anything that you dislike about the appearance of your teeth. Porcelain veneers may be a good option for:
- Closing gaps between widely spaced teeth
- Covering stains that do not respond to whitening treatment
- Improving the size or shape of teeth
- Correcting asymmetry, uneven, or “mismatched” teeth to create a uniform smile
- Repairing some types of minor damage such as small chips
- Improving the appearance of mildly rotated teeth
Are veneers right for you?
One, several, or all of your visible teeth can be treated with veneers. However, because they are quite thin, veneers generally are not appropriate for restoring badly decayed or damaged teeth. In that case, Dr. Michelle may recommend an alternative such as crowns. If just one or a few teeth have serious damage, a combination of crowns and veneers may be used to achieve a full smile makeover.
Dr. Michelle will perform an examination and then discuss your options. If you are ready to see your dream smile come to life, call Kentwood Family Dental Care at (616) 612-1176 and schedule a consultation to learn more.
